The Spring Collection – 2014

Designed for various school projects while attending Pittsburg State University.

These are just a few of my favorite design-related school projects I created in the spring semester of 2014. These designs were made for 3 projects in two different classes.

GoPro Advertising Brief

Designed an Advertising Campaigns class, while earning my MBA at Pittsburg State University.

This was a semester-long individual project that was designed to provide us with hands-on experience creating an advertising brief for a campaign that spanned multiple mediums including: publications, radio, TV, outdoor advertising, billboards, and new media. At the beginning of the course, each student in the class randomly given a brand or product that we would develop a variety of advertisements for throughout the semester. I was given GoPro.

Custom Toaster Project

Designed as the Greatest Wedding Gift Toaster of All Time!

It started more as a joke: “If you invite me to your wedding, my gift will be a toaster.” Is there a more cliché wedding gift than that? So when my best friend asked me to be a part of his wedding, I had to follow through. So I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest toaster I could find. (Though, to be fair, I also gave them a very nice coffee maker.) Of course, I made a few customizations before wrapping it up…

Most of My Undergraduate Work

Designed during my undergraduate studies.

During my undergraduate studies I used a Blogger website for my portfolio. I’ll eventually update this portfolio to include the work featured there. For now, I encourage you to take a look. There’s some good work there, including logos, 3D design, packaging, print work, and more…

Class Project: Publication Ad

Designed for Digital File Preparation class while studying Commercial Graphics at PSU.

For this assignment, the challenge was to create two ads for a full color publication. One had to be a full page and the other a partial page. I had some trouble determining the topic of this ad until I was inspired by Jimmy Fallon’s release of the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon iPhone App. I immediately saw the potential of a publication ad. I wanted to use their design themes from the show, website, and the app itself to create the ad. I found a similar font, used their approximate colors, and did my best to stay true to the style of the show. The colors are matches of the web colors, so I was curious as to how they would print.

Airplane Dominoes

Designed for Graphic Design Class while studying Commercial Graphics at PSU.

To this day, this has always been one of my favorite projects. The project was simple, design a vintage looking package for a set of Double Six Airplane Dominoes. I love vintage design, so this was an assignment I was anxious to work on. I had been hearing about the project for about a year from other classes, and I couldn’t wait!

FSCC Logo Design

Designed for Graphic Design Class while studying Commercial Graphics at PSU.

Pittsburg State has a very respected graphic design program. As such, it is very common that local businesses and organizations offer project opportunities to classes and students. One of those projects came from Fort Scott Community College (FSCC). They were looking for a new logo and came to us for ideas. Each student in the Graphic Design class designed a unique logo and presented them to the class. We picked our favorites and sent them to FSCC. This was the logo I designed.
